Great interest in conference on seed orchards
Today, September 4, IUFRO Seed Orchard Conference 2017 starts in Bålsta, Sweden. 115 people from 22 nations participate in exchanging knowledge about seedling orchards.
Seed Orchard Conference 2017 is organized by SLU, Svenska Skogsplantor and Skogforsk. The interest has been big according to Ulfstand Wennström, Skogforsk:
"We hoped for at best 60 participants, so above 100 is beyond all expectations. It indicates that seedling production is a priority area around the world now. That is pleasing considering that the demand for wood will rise as fossil materials are replaced with renewables”, he says.
At the conference, many researchers participate, but also representatives from authorities and companies. The main purpose is to exchange the latest scientific knowledge about seedlings for forest trees and the integration into forestry.
