Stump treatment to prevent root rot
Root rot (Heterobasidion annosum) is gaining a hold in Swedish forests. Fifteen per cent of the country’s Norway-spruce population is already afflicted, costing forestry an estimated US$200,000 a day. This invasive fungus degrades the timber, reduces growth and increases the risk to trees of further damage, eg, windthrow.

In this film, forestry experts share their knowledge and experience of how the problem can be controlled. We learn about the causes of root rot and the biological process that enables it to spread. We follow a team of thinning contractors and see how preventative stump treatment is carried out in practice. The team offers a range of tips on the equipment and spray solutions used, and demonstrate how the work can be organized efficiently.

The film also deals with monitoring of the work, and the care and fine-tuning of the equipment.

Target groups: Forestry contractors, harvester operators, forestry professionals and forest owners.
