Logistics
Skogforsk is developing models for efficient planning of transport, with the aim of integrating all levels in the value chain. Logistics organization is linked in a digital chain from forest to industry. Greater efficiency in planning, management and follow up can reduce costs, reduce environmental impact, and increase road safety. Skogforsk is also developing new technology and new methods of transport.
Current research
Optimization of wood flows
The FlowOpt program is being further developed to improve efficiency in wood flows. Timber can be exchanged to optimize combinations of various types of transport.

Intelligent function for route selection
Skogforsk is conducting practical trials of Krönt vägval. This is a function for choosing the cheapest route to the mill. The function has been developed within the framework of the forestry sector’s work on a national database of forest roads, SNVDB.

Time for road improvements?
VägRust provides data for decisions about which roads should be improved in order to satisfy the industry’s needs for raw materials all year round. Skogforsk is developing the system’s optimization model and user interface.

Optimize machine resources
Skogforsk has developed a system for planning machine resources at strategic and tactical levels. The system can optimize allocation of stands per existing machine teams and the entire machine fleet’s composition and localization.

New shuttle system
Skogforsk is evaluating a system whereby the forwarder loads the wood directly onto a shuttle and on to the trailer. The shuttle and trailer are then collected by the timber truck. Another system under evaluation involves a removable crane that can be used by several different timber trucks.
