Forest management

Skogforsk is developing new and improved ways of managing the forest. The objective is profitable forest production through better growth, quality and consideration. The foundation for the future is laid in young forest.  Optimization of the entire chain from regeneration to first thinning forms the basis for profitable and sustainable utilization of the forest.

Current research

More efficient regeneration

Skogforsk is prioritizing research into reducing the costs of regeneration. New strategies for increasing future nature values and attaining more efficient natural regeneration are two examples of current issues.

More efficient sowing

Skogforsk is developing methods for autumn sowing of pine and lodgepole pine. Skogforsk is also testing a new type of briquette for sowing.

New silviculture technology

Skogforsk is testing and developing machines for inverted site preparation and models for mechanical planting. We are also following up financial aspects, quality and production in corridor cleaning.

Improved information for thinning decisions

Skogforsk’s new information function for decisions about thinning (INGVAR) is undergoing further development and is integrated with, for example, information for decisions about forest cleaning.

The digital forest

This project will enable data about the forest and ground to be transferred along the production chain. Skogforsk is also developing the third generation of forest use plans.
